It helps to keep the soil cooler in hot weather and warmer in cold weather, thus providing a more favorable environment for the roots of plants.  This demonstrates the versatility of the product for the various climates in the U.S.

4. Erosion Prevention: Pine Straw helps to prevent soil erosion by reducing the impact of heavy rain or wind.  It forms a dense mat that holds the soil in place and adheres well to slopes preventing it from being blown off or washed away during heavy rains.  Additionally, stability for the top soil is provided naturally as the pine straw decomposes and provides moisture for the plants simultaneously.

5. Acidification of Soil: Pine Straw is slightly acidic and gradually acidifies the soil as it breaks down. This can be beneficial for acid-loving plants such as azaleas, rhododendrons, and blueberries.

9. Soil Improvement: As pine straw breaks down, it adds organic matter to the soil while improving its structure and fertility.  Because pine straw is high in nitrogen; it makes for great fertilizer, encourages the activity of beneficial soil organisms, and contributes to the overall soil health surrounding plants.
